About Encaustech
I began painting with encaustic twelve years ago, after seeing a painting by Julie Dzikiewicz during an open studio at the Workhouse Art Center in Lorton, VA. I was mesmerized by the lumionosity and colors of the medium, and fascinated by watching the process - layers of melted wax fused together with the fire from a torch? Hell yeah!
When I returned home to California, I took classes at Wax Works West and loved learning the flexibility of working with encaustic. Here’s a brief article about the history of this medium; it dates back almost 2,000 years to portraits for mummies in Egypt.
My artwork has a technology and math influence but I also find myself drawn toward the fluidity of oceanic images and the sky. I’m still evolving my artistic voice and enjoying every minute of it.
